Although the story of "the old man and sea" is brief but has profound meaning, it writes an old fisherman Santiago not catching fish for continuous 84 days, but at the 85th day he finally finds a salmon with the weight of more than 1500 lbs, Then he has fought with it for 3 days and 3 nights. Finally the big fish was completely exhausted and floated on the sea. The old fisherman killed the fish. On his way back, he was attacked by sharks again and again. When he returned the port, only the head, the tail and the bone of the fish still remained. This is a classical tragic novel with deep implied meanings and also is a symphony about heroism. Hemingway said: [I am trying to depict a real man, a real child, real sea, a real fish and a real pack of sharks.Several Tricks for Halloween Costume

However, if I can write realistic enough, they can also represent a number of other things. "The old man San Diego of the story is a wretched person; being without having caught fish for 84 days, others regarded him as a fisherman loser. But this seemed to indicate the start of a battle. As expected, just in the 85th day, he really found a salmon weighing more than 1,500 lbs; although he knew clearly that the other side was stronger than him, he was still determined to fight to the end. He said to the big fish," I will fight against you to the end!", and finally got the victory. After the old man caught the fish with toil and moil, the test did not end yet. Because the fish was big and long, he had to tied it to one side of the boat. While he is heading for home, the blood of the big fish leads to a shark`s continual attacks. The only thing he can do is to fight back with every means. With harpoon taken away by the shark, he ties a knife to an oar for stabbing.Things you Need Know Most Predominant for Cuties

The knife broken, he uses truncheons, batons missing, he fights with the external rudder. Although the fish meat is bitten, but nothing can destory his will. It seems God has never pitied a great old man like him. Misfortune befell him over and over again. His indomitable will never brought a good result to him. When he returned the port, only the head, the tail and the backbone of the fish was left. Why did Hemingway not let the old man succeed finally? Did it can greatly embody the great hero in this way? The story of the elder man is not only a symbol of the relationship between man and nature, but also symbolizes the indestructible spirit of the whole humanity. He is a loser in reality yet a winner in spirit. His dogged fight shows the dignity and the respect of the human.

It can't be the same. Failure was an unendurable attack. You will have the hope if you go to the sea again. I think that this sinister life of this tough environment and attitude toward life, it is this work more compelling reason. The old in this story says:"people is not born for defeat, he can be destoryed, but can not be defeated. This sentence makes me think of The Symphony of Fate by Beethoven who ever said," I can be destroyed, but I can not be conquered." They express the meaning of a hero and the significance of life. And the article in the text also points out the idea of the article: people need to bravely face the failure. From this side, this book is not a fable or fairy, but a realistic work.

Victory is not important anymore in this novel. What's important is one's life value. The old man was brave enough to challenge extreme and suppressed it again and again. We cannot help admiring him. He brought human beings confidence and strong spiritual power. "The Old Man and the Sea" gives me many life inspirations. What is failure? Failure is that when you fall down you should collect your courage to stand up. Every fall down is followed a standup. Never lose hope on life and never lose the dream of life. It also tells me what a hero is. A hero means a man who can face frustration and conquer self-ego and frustration bravely. They possess the courage to accomplish his dream lost for many times. I like Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" very much. I understand there were many setbacks in Hemingway's life. He went through wars, physical and mental diseases. Actually he overcame them again and again. It's a pity that in the end, he chose to kill himself to finish his life. Maybe he had his reasons, but he was against the explanation of failure and hero in The Old Man and Sea. This is a pity.

Failure is not dreadful. What we fear is we would submit to the failure. Once we do so, all the dreams will not be achieved. It is significant in the real life. In my view, life is like the old man sailed out to catch fish. When encountering difficulty, we must confront it bravely. Even if we don`t succeed, we won`t feel pity for it because we had tried our best to do it. We can also be a stronger in life. Our life can also be wonderful because of the effort we have paid.
